Designing a bathroom in a loft or attic conversion can be a challenge—especially when it comes to fitting a shower door under a sloped ceiling. Standard shower doors rarely work in these spaces, and finding something off-the-shelf to fit neatly under an angled roof is often impossible. That’s where custom-made shower doors come in.
If you’re working with an awkward layout, limited head height, or sharp ceiling angles, this guide will help you understand your options and choose a shower door that’s designed to fit your space perfectly.
Why Sloped Ceilings Are a Problem for Standard Doors
Most standard shower doors are made for square, upright spaces. They’re designed to fit within level openings, with full-height glass and no allowance for ceiling pitch or obstructions. In lofts and attic bathrooms, the ceiling often cuts into the proposed enclosure at an angle, limiting vertical clearance and creating an irregular shape that a typical door simply can’t accommodate.
Trying to force a standard solution into an angled space usually leads to awkward gaps, unusable doors, leaking enclosures and costly mistakes. That’s why a bespoke approach can be essential.
Custom Shower Doors for Sloped Ceilings
A custom shower door is measured and manufactured to suit your exact space—even if that space has sloped ceilings, unusual angles, or limited height. We offer bespoke solutions for a wide range of layouts, including alcove sloped shower doors and corner attic enclosures.
Which Door Style Works Best?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer—it depends on the shape of your space, the available access, and your personal preference.
Hinged doors are a popular choice if there’s room for the door to open outwards without hitting the sloped ceiling. They offer a clean, frameless look and work well in alcoves or flat-ceilinged walls with one angled side.
Fixed screens are often the simplest and most effective solution for very tight spaces. A walk-in layout with a single shaped glass panel, cut to follow the slope, keeps things open and avoids the need for a door altogether, provided that your water flow will not escape from spaces at the end of the shower tray.
We also design bifold and notched-panel solutions for lofts with low beams or boxed pipework, where glass needs to wrap around or work within more non standard boundaries.
